This chapter acquaints the student with those notational devices and practices that identify and locate pitch precisely. The concept of generic pitch-class is also introduced as well as labeling conventions and solfége syllables.
This information and the subsequent attainment of fluent use by repetitive drill shall prepare the student to examine pitch and pitch structures in following chapters.
